Zoe Saldana was born in New Jersey and spent the first part of her childhood in Queens, New York. When she was 10 her family moved to the Dominican Republic and would stay there for 7 years. Young Zoe uncovered her desire to perform while on the island and enrolled in a prestigious dance academy to pursue the art. At 17 Zoe moved back to New York and three years later had landed a part as a ballet dancer in the movie Center Stage.
